Styling: The Standout

Posted on by

aspire-acquire-black-lace-minidresses

Ladies, I’m BACK!  I’ve taken a bit of a hiatus from blogging to focus on other project (some of these projects will benefit some of you greatly, mischievous grin) and now it is time to get back to work and do what I do best, talk about fashion!

Let’s talk about standing out from the crowd.  I don’t go out often, but when I do it feels like all of the ladies are wearing the same uniform:

  • Mini-dress: Check
  • 6″ Platform Heels: Check
  • Matching Clutch: Check

There is nothing wrong with this because I have my share of these uniforms in different colors, but there are ways to stay true to this style and stand out from the pack.

Don’t believe me, check out the inspiration ‘fit we put together: Continue reading →

“HAIR IT IS!”

To Buy or Not To Buy? “That is the question”

Looking back on 2011-2013, the hair weave has become a widespread accessory.  Almost Everyone is trying to get in the game.  A Lawyer, baker or shoemaker by day is now a hair vendor by night. Some leave full-time positions to sale hair. I’m not mad at “you”, make your ends meet!

I ask that you, do your homework so you can represent your product truthfully.  Because hair is  unpackaged  does not make it unprocessed hair.  Unprocessed hair has not been altered from its original state.

I’m true to the hair game, my knowledge comes from years of training and research. Yet, I have also been fooled by bootleg hair vendors. I call it disposable hair,  if I wanted packaged hair from the beauty supply, I would go to them and buy it!   There are questionable companies misrepresenting  hair. While multiply consumers are loosing money.

Don’t sell hair out of your trunk and promise me that it’s 100% Virgin,” human hair’.  If you actually don’t know, just say that! I at least, won’t have high expectations from a low quality hair.

So do your homework, don’t get caught up with the  name of a country, Braizil, India & Malaysia. The hair may or may not be harvest from that particular region.  Make a decision based your expectations of the hair and your budget.  Make sure you purchase hair that meets your needs and serves you properly.

A thought from “Beauty by the Book”

Long Hair, DO Care: Trials and Tribulations of Being Natural

Posted on by

933c70f66e684720b21a86fa35e91fa0

Hi folks!  Today, I want to discuss the true journey of a black woman with natural hair.  When I “went natural”, I looked to countless blogs, YouTube videos, personal friends, and my love/hate (mostly hate) relationship with perms to help me through my transition to being totally chemical free.

I saw so many beautiful manes that took on different shapes and sizes.  I was intrigued by the different lengths and colors and I thought the curl patterns were amazing.  The ladies I followed hair grew from twas, to chin lengths, to neck lengths, to bra strap lengths, and so on in what seemed like a matter of days.  They made the journey look so easy and worry free that it become a no brainer for me to lose the perm.

So, here is my permed look:

And post big chop pics:

I thought my Bantu Knot Out would be long and pretty, but figured out pretty quickly that all I was going to get was a curly afro.

Michael Kors Eboni Bootie $31.00 (Orignal price: 195.00)

Hello ladies!  I know I haven’t been posting as regularly as I use to (managing people causes vegetation status when you hit the home front), but I will try to do better going forward.

What I have made time for is making mega, cheap purchases.  Some people may handle stress by eating, taking drugs, drinking etc, but my vice is shopping.  I will leave the  office during my lunch break under the guise of going to actually eat food, but will come back with several pairs of shoes and cute dresses.  It doesn’t help matters that the mall is less than 3 miles from the office.

Last week I went to Belk just to take a peek and walked out with several additions to my shoe room  (yes, room not closet… that’s another story).  I did so well on this trip that I got into a debate with the sales lady about how I thought she had under charged me!

Check out what I picked up:

Slashed Style Spotlight: Tosha from Atlanta

Posted on by

image-1
Ladies, meet today’s spotlight Tosha!  Tosha is a smart and gorgeous sista from the great state of Georgia!  Let’s check out what Tosha has to say about her style:

Tell us about yourself.

I’m a 29 year old woman who works full-time at a physician practice as an operations manager. I live in Atlanta where I enjoy reading, watching movies, spending time with family and friends, shopping, and enjoying all the fine dining Atlanta has to offer. I’ve found that, in my spare time, I also enjoy planning events for friends and family. Maybe I’ll make a business out of it some day. I believe that having a good life is all about having the right attitude. If you put negative energy out, that’s what you’ll get in return. But if you have a positive attitude and outlook, watch how even the darkest situations can turn around because of your positive energy.

Describe your personal style.

I would describe my personal style as classic with a funky edge. I like pieces that are timeless but that have a fun and stylish flair to them. I like to play with color, patterns, and detailing that make what could be considered more basic pieces come to life when the outfit is all put together. Continue reading →

QOTD: Would You Let Your Boyfriend Influence Your Style?

Posted on by

There’s no doubt Kim Kardashian’s style has been evolving in the past few months —after all, she had to buy some new clothes once boyfriend Kanye West cleaned out her entire closet.

But perhaps much to her sister Khloe’s dismay (RIP ghetto fab stilettos), Kim says she’s more than thankful for the influence her stylish boyfriend has had on her fashion “vision.”

In a recent interview with V Magazine, the reality star admits that Kanye has had much to do with her sophisticated new look.

“Obviously having a stylish boyfriend who has helped introduce me to things and opened up my vision has been an inspiration and has helped me change it up a little bit and become more sophisticated,” Kim said in the interview. “Being with him, designing and doing things, that’s been motivating to me and taught me a lot. I’m just thankful.”

Would you let your boyfriend change your style?
